Biography

Bernard Fines, singer-songwriter and acoustic engineer is back in France after 22 years living in Brazil.

His first mission in Brazil was to make a sustainable development project with a Franco-Brazilian NGO. The fishermen “caiçaras”, (mixed Indian, Portuguese and African natives) invited him in each one of their gatherings to sing French songs followed by the guitar. Very quickly, Bernard offered himself his first Brazilian guitar, and started playing in bars, then in festivals of MPB (Brazilian song) where he has even received a first place award for interpretation.

He sharpened his musical technique at the Conservatory of Brazilian Popular Music in Curitiba (Brazilian singing and percussion lessons) and CIGAM in Rio de Janeiro (guitar lessons, functional harmony and piano).

It was in 2000 that Bernard decided to get into music, as a main job, and began to follow many training courses at IATEC in Rio de Janeiro: home studio, mastering, sound, phonographic production, executive production, electronic music production and management of cultural projects, as well as singing lessons with Brazilian singers Liane Guariente, Malu Rocha and Ju Cassou.

In 2006, he directed the soundtrack for Lu Gastão’s play “Te amo nesta escuridão”, directed by Helena Varvaki, Carla Biolchini as the executive producer, winner of the Funarte-Rio de Janeiro Prize, produced entirely in his studio.

Very quickly, Bernard increases his notoriety as Producer of the Jazz Village Club in Penedo (Rio de Janeiro) and the Penedo Winter Jazz Festival. Where he meets the “Julio Bittencourt Trio” of São Paulo with them, he will tour for 8 years, recording also 2 CDs previously: “Under the sky of Paris” in 2008, with the label “Delira Musica” of Rio de Janeiro, and “Muito Merci” in 2014 with the São Paulo MCK label, where Bernard unveils his own compositions, while signing the lyrics of Brazilian artists such as Gilson Peranzzetta, Zeca Baleiro, Mario Seve, Nelson Faria , Luis Melodia, Marvio Ciribelli, Leo Gandelman, Daniela Spielman, Idriss Boudrioua, Luis Alves …

The launch of his latest Brazilian CD will take place in the mythical Jazz Bourbon Street Club in Sao Paulo with the participation of singer Manu Le Prince and Brazilian guitarist Filô Machado.

In his tours Bernard traveled around Brazil from South to North, singing in the best clubs and jazz festivals: Campos Jazz Fest, Pedro II Jazz Festival, Ibitipoca Jazz Festival, Bourbon Street, All of Jazz, Modern Sound, Jazz B, Trib’Oz … He notably represented France during the year of France in Brazil, at the “Virada Cultural” (music festival in São Paulo), alongside renowned Brazilian artists such as Zeca Baleiro, Fafa de Belém, Siba, Edgar Scandurra, Guga Stroeter & Heartbreakers.

More recently, Bernard has participated in the “Masterclass Jazz Vocal” of David Linx, at the jazz festival “Montreux meets Brienz” alongside the Brazilian Marvio Ciribelli and Ju Cassou, and at the opening of the festival “Touches de Jazz” in Beynes in the Yvelines and at the “Notes d’Automne” festival.
